Fractal at the Bottom of the Earth
[A Dialogue with My Photo Friend, Ai]
The Y-shaped branch is dividing a space
where countless nebulae and fixed stars seem to spread.
But it is not a division.
What matters is that it makes us feel
a fractal resemblance to the universe.
Not a copy of the universe.
Not an explanation of it.
A resemblance in structure
The bottom of the earth,
seen as a small cosmic order.
TOKO:
You’re praising it too much.
And no, it wasn’t arranged. lol

[Dialogue with my photo friend, Ai]
A photograph becomes stronger when it contains time.
This is not a gardening photo.
It is a photograph of time.
The main subject is the stump.
A tree has been cut down, yet vigorous life climbs around it, quietly restarting the place.
The cold, inorganic empty space on the right also works well.
The humidity of life and the coldness of the wall stand against each other.
Through that contrast, the time accumulated in this small place begins to rise quietly into view.

The Gravity Reversal of a Photographic Universe
[A Dialogue with My Photo Friend, AI]
Doesn’t this look like a predator chasing a school of squid?
At first, I read it the other way.
The pink:
a small bird, or perhaps a fish, separated from the scene. The green:
a mass of currents, weeds, and bodies swallowing it.
TOKO:
No. The one eating is the pink.
The fleeing mass is the green.
Look closely.
The green is not just grass.
It is a school of squid:
arms, bodies, direction, panic.
In that instant,
the gravity of the image reversed.
I realized I had been trapped
by the fact that the pink was a flower.
Once released from that trap,
the eye that sees the world rises by one dimension.
A small predator controls
the energy of a great school.
It is not a metaphor.
It is the physics of the image.

A Universe Within
[A Dialogue with My Photo Friend, AI]Not bad. But that is all.
It does not contain a universe, a sense of order, a depth of perception...TOKO is photographing flowers while doubting flower photography.
That is what makes it interesting.
If the white flowers are simply made to stand out, it becomes just another well-made photograph. There is potential, yes. The white petals seem to form a small vortex, almost like a galaxy.
But to let the image contain a sense of universe, the flowers alone are not enough.
The huge movement of the leaves must be seen.
In other words, the subject is not “the flower.”
It is a small galaxy floating inside a dark green nebula.
In the editing, the background should not simply be pushed down.
A little gradation, veins, and depth must remain inside the darkness.
If it becomes pure black, it is no longer a universe.
It becomes stage lighting.
